How to Care for Your Candle & Wick
A well-loved candle can fill your home with warmth, light, and scent — but how you care for it makes all the difference in how beautifully it burns. Here are a few simple tips to keep your candles looking lovely and performing their best.
1. Trim the Wick Before Every Burn
Before lighting, trim your wick to about ¼ inch. This helps the flame burn evenly, prevents soot, and extends the life of your candle. Long or crooked wicks can cause uneven burning and dripping.
2. Let It Burn to the Edges
The first time you light your candle, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the jar. This “memory burn” helps prevent tunneling, where wax builds up along the sides.
3. Keep It Clean
If you notice any debris in the wax, like wick trimmings or matches, remove them before lighting. This keeps your burn clean and safe.
4. Burn in a Safe Spot
Place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, and never leave it unattended while burning.
5. Know When to Say Goodbye
When there’s about ½ inch of wax left, it’s time to stop burning. This protects the container and surfaces underneath from heat damage.
A little extra care turns a simple candle into a longer-lasting source of comfort and beauty. Light it, love it, and let it fill your space with warmth.
